Mark Your Calendars – OOUG Q4 Meeting – November 9, 2017

 Want to spend a whole day learning about Oracle application containers(newest offering in 12.2), data and database security, insert statement internals for Oracle DBA’s and a highly technical session on Oracle performance tuning? We are excited to announce that Daniel Morgan, the man behind Morgan’s library, will be our guest speaker for the OOUG Q4 meeting. He is a retired Oracle instructor from the University of Washington, a member of the executive boards for the Vancouver and Victoria Oracle Users Groups in Canada, a member of NYOUG, the co-founder of the International GoldenGate Oracle Users Group along with several other board memberships. His website, Morgan’s library(http://www.morganslibrary.org) is wealth of information on Oracle databases technologies. Mr. Morgan is a regular contributor at Oracle conferences and forums around the world such as  OpenWorld, Collaborate, ODTUG Kaleidoscope, IOUC International Leadership Conference and others.

Bio:  Oracle ACE Director Dan Morgan is the Morgan behind Morgan’s Library.

Education: In 2009 Morgan retired from teaching at the University of Washington where he wrote the Oracle program and served as its primary instructor. In addition to his work at UW Morgan also served as an adviser to the outreach program at the University of California Berkeley, was a consultant on Oracle to Harvard University, and as a guest lecturer at numerous universities including the University of Oslo (Norway), the University of Canterbury (New Zealand), Techologico de Costa Rica, and Universidad Latina de Panama. In 2014 Morgan taught a Master Class for IOUG as part of the “New Challenges & Opportunities Facing DBAs” series. Since then Morgan has continued his worldwide travels focusing on the three S’s: Stability, Security, and Scalability.

User Groups: Morgan is a member of the executive boards for the Vancouver and Victoria Oracle Users Groups in Canada, a member of NYOUG, the co-founder of the International GoldenGate Oracle Users Group, a former Board member of the Western Washington Oracle Users Group, a former Chair of the Washington Software Association’s Database Special Interest Group. Morgan has also been a member of UKOUG, the International Oracle zSeries SIG, the Oracle RAC SIG, and BAARF.

Community: Mr. Morgan is a regular contributor at Oracle conferences and forums around the world presenting at conferences including OpenWorld, Collaborate, ODTUG Kaleidoscope, IOUC International Leadership Conference, and has presented or taught Oracle in Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Japan, Latvia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Peru, Serbia, Sweden, Thailand, UK, Uruguay,  and the US.

Consulting: Currently Morgan focuses his efforts on consulting for Tier 1 enterprise clients in aerospace, telecommunications, e-commerce and the cloud. Morgan’s background in “databases” began on IBM mainframes in 1969 has has included Informix, DB2, Sybase, SQL Server, and Teradata in addition to Oracle.

Kai Yu is a senior principal architect in Dell EMC Enterprise Solutions Engineering. Kai spent more than two decades architecting and implementing various Oracle solutions by specializing in Oracle RAC database, Oracle EBS, Virtualization/Cloud, IT End to End Infrastructure including servers, Networking and Storage. Kai has given over 130 presentations in various IT conferences in 20 Countries (IEEE HPCC, Oracle OpenWorlds, IOUG Collaborates, UKOUG, DOAG(Germany), EMEA OUG Harmony, Norway OUG, Australia OUG and New Zealand OUG, All China OU, etc. He also authored more than 30 articles in  technical journals such as IEEE Transactions on Big Data, IOUG Select and Dell Power Solutions and  co-authored Apress book “Expert Oracle RAC12c”. Kai has held the Oracle ACE Director title since 2010 and was featured as Oracle ACE Spotlight by OTN.  He also received the 2011 OAUG Innovator of Year award the 2012 Oracle Excellence Award: Technologist of the Year: Cloud Architect by Oracle Magazine.  Kai has shared all his technical articles and conference presentations on his Oracle blog: https://kyuoracleblog.wordpress.com/.

George Spears

George Spears is the Director of Database Solutions for Oracle National Accounts.  George brings over 30 years of IT experience and technology leadership to his role at Oracle.  George’s original tenure at Oracle was from 1990 to 2010.  George has worked with over half of the Fortune 100 in his role at Oracle, been recognized as National MVP for multiple years at Oracle, founded various competitive programs, and presented at Oracle Open World.  After a short period away, George returned in 2014 in his current role as Director of Database Solutions. In George’s current role, he is responsible for all Database and Engineered Systems technology within Oracle’s National organization. George has an in-depth understanding of how Oracle’s technologies and products can help customers solve today’s challenging business problems.

In addition to Oracle, George has worked for both EMC and IBM, as well as the United States Air Force.

Bio:  Riyaj Shamsudeen

Riyaj is a globally recognized expert in Oracle database performance and internals. He has almost two decades of experience implementing, using and tuning Real Application Cluster (RAC) and Oracle products. Currently, he is the President of OraInternals, a database services company specializing in Oracle database performance among others. Riyaj is the author of five books on Oracle technologies and multiple articles. He is also a proud member of OakTable Network, a network for Oracle scientists, and the author of the Oracle database Internals blog (http://orainternals.wordpress.com/). Riyaj is a frequent international speaker in major conferences such as UK Oracle User Group, Open World, HotSOS, and Rocky Mountain Oracle Users Group. Maria Colgan is a master product manager at Oracle Corporation and has been with the company since version 7.3 was released in 1996. Maria’s core responsibility is the Oracle Database In-Memory Option. Based on Maria’s extensive experience in Oracle’s Server Technology Performance Group – where she conducted competitive customer benchmarks and tuning sessions – and the Optimizer Group, Maria creates material and lectures on the Oracle Database In-Memory Option and the best practices for incorporating it into Oracle environments. She is also a contributing author to the Oracle Optimizer blog  and the new Oracle Database In-Memory blog .
