"This Old Program, These Old Programmers" takes a close look at how to
revolutionize the way you write your PL/SQL programs, in terms of specific
coding techniques, leveraging new features of PL/SQL, and revamping the human
processes that are the core of software development. You will leave this seminar
with a new and inspired outlook on writing PL/SQL applications! This seminar is
broken up into three sections:
- Guidelines for high quality
development: key elements required to ensure that the code you right
meets user requirements, works efficiently and is very maintainable.
- Doing it right the
first time: Steven steps through the process of implementing Codecheck,
a QA utility for PL/SQL developers. He applies best practices, as well as
new features of Oracle8i and Oracle9i. Your eyes will be opened to a new and
better way of writing code!
- Fixing it right the second time: No matter how disciplined we are,
there is always room for improvement. Steven in this portion of the class
introduces the concept of
refactoring.
He demonstrates how you can go back into existing applications and
rigorously improve its inner design, structure and overall robustness.
The OOUG meeting will be a full-day seminar taught by Steven
Feuerstein, the renowned Oracle PL/SQL programming author and
teacher.
In addition to the seminar, the meeting includes:
- a free copy for each attendee of the recently updated Oracle
PL/SQL Language Quick Reference from O'Reilly, which provides a
handy reference to all aspects of the PL/SOL language up through
Oracle9i Release 2
- Data Dictionary for Oracle 10g poster from CA
- V$ Views for Oracle Database 10g poster from TUSC
- breakfast, lunch, and snacks
- book and t-shirts from O'Reilly and Associates
- additional raffle prizes
